This year's competition categories will be similar to last year's categories. There will still be the three main categories of WWW Sites, FanFiction & Poetry and FanArt. Each of these categories will be divided into subcategories, and the competitions will actually take place within different subcategories.

The difference from last year's competition is that different cubcategories are being defined this time around. Some of these subcategories will be based on characters/teams and are not yet defined - and will not be defined until the day before voting takes place.

These subcategories were added in 2001 so that the competitors will be more evenly matched. It will also allow the X-Day results to reflect how each submission is viewed when placed against other similar entries - not when placed against entries that enjoy better resources, have existed longer, or which address different issues.

The subcategories are listed below, with a complete description (and sometimes examples) of eligible entries. When you submit your entry, you must CHOOSE THE SUBCATEGORY that you wish to compete in. So read the descriptions and make your choice as to where you want to compete.

FanArt Subcategories (There will be seperate subcategories for Hand Drawn and Computer Enhanced Art)

  • "Hand-done" - art that is drawn/painted/constructed/etc and then scanned and submitted. Includes images of figurines that have been painted.
  • "Computer generated or modified" - art that is computer generated using any software program, or any hand-done art that is "enhanced" using a computer.
  • Sub-subcategories - apply for both Hand-done and computer modified work.
    • Female Characters - pictures of Rogue, Jean, Storm, etc.
    • Male Characters - pictures of Scott/Cyclops, Wolverine, etc.
    • Couples - pictures of Scott & Jean, Rogue & Remy, Rogue & Scott etc.
    • Teams - both team "portraits" and "action shots"
    • Groups - groups of non-team-mates and/or action shots consisting of characters from more than one team.
    • Individual Character Categories - to be determined after all submissions are received, by the the number of submissions. if more than five submissions consisting of one character (Rogue, Wolverine etc) or a couple (Rogue & Remy) are received, a seperate category will be set up for those entries.
FanFiction Subcategories
  • Poetry - any type.
  • Short Story - stories that are 1-10 printed pages (12pt. times roman single spaced)
  • Novella - stories longer than 10 printed pages (12pt. times roman single spaced)

Questions about WWW Subcategories :
  • Why weren't other awards considered for the "Winner's Circle Category"?
The "Winner's Circle" category is intended to allow the winningest of all the X-Related sites to compete against each other without forcing other newer or less flashy sites to compete as well. There are many sites that give out awards, often every month, but very few that list the criteria used to select the winners. So the awards chosen were
    • The Exy Awards (X-Related, popular vote, long running and well established)
    • The X-Day 2000 Awards (X-Related, popular vote with judges' opinions, long running)
    • The Golden Web Awards (not-X-Related, published criteria, professional judgement)
    • The Ultimate Fan Site Awards (not-X-Related, published criteria, fan sites only)
There were many other awards considered for this category, however they were not chosen because it would expand the category to include too many sites, some of which would not be able to fairly compete against the other entries. If you feel that you give awards to sites that should be included in the "Winner's Circle" please let Shannon know - pipik@mtu.edu
Prizes : An Attempt will be made to provide Prize Packages for all winners, however, since there are so MANY categories, and so few prize donors, plaques will also be made up and distributed to winners in every category.

Adult Content : All Sites, Fiction and Art must be permitted to compete by the X-Day Manager. Any "adult" content must be mentioned in the submission form - a method for rating the content will be provided.

FAILURE TO MENTION ADULT CONTENT IN THE SUBMISSION FORM MAY BE GROUNDS FOR REMOVAL FROM THE COMPETITION!

All FanFiction must announce any adult content at the beginning of the story/poem. The X-Day Manager has the final say on what will and will not be permitted to compete. SoftPorn is NOT allowed - kids view this site, so be responsible. All Sites will be checked by the X-Day Manager at some point to ensure that they are entering in the correct category. Plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification from the X-Day competiton, and perhaps banning from future competitions.

How do you contact the X-Day Manager? If, after reading this document and the rules document carefully, you still have questions about the contest, or wish to voice concerns or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact the X-Day Manager, Shannon Pipik, at pipik@mtu.edu.
