Index to Generation X
Version 1.0, last modified July 6, 2001
by Robert Diehl (rfdiehl@yahoo.com)

Introduction: Name the Frost girls.
What 3 buildings on campus were destroyed?
	Who is Chevy?
Where are Artie and Leech now? Mondo? Maggott? Tom Corsi?
	Who is Penance III?

Lobdell:	Writer Scott Lobdell and artist Chris Bachalo created the team.
(1-28) with characters old and new. Emma Frost was made the most conflicted
schoolteacher since Michael Xavier, and repulsive powers were invented for
Chamber, Skin, Husk, and Penance. Mondo was a non-starter, and Emma, M, Jubilee,
and Chamber became most prominent. Oh, and Artie and Leech were given a tree
house.

Best: Leech and Artie beating Bulwark while Jubilee beats Emplate.

	Not-So-Much-the-Best: the Glamour Machine.

Hama:	Larry Hama took over for a little over a year, and seemed to think what
the world needed was another cross-time caper, and then swapped M with Penance.

Best: Chief Authier, Synch being nice to the punks who beat him.

Not-So-Much-the-Best: the Pooka, Gaia, Bianca Laneige.

Faerber:	Jay Faerber brought in another, meaner Frost, broke up Jono and Paige
and gave her to a rich kid, and took the kids on their most enjoyable adventures.

Best: Maggottıs visit, Paladin and Jubilee, the formal.

Not-So-Much-the-Best: the third Penance, Monetıs vampire schoolmaster.

Ellis & Wood:	Warren Ellis and Brian Wood took over in iss. 63 as part of the
Counter-X revamp. They had time for 3 storylines before cancellation of many of
the X-books under new management.

	Best: 4 days.

	Not-So-Much-the-Best: Seanıs stereotypical Irish drunkenness.

Honorable Mention:	James Robinsonıs 3 OZT issues.

Dishonorable Mention:	Mahfood.

Anyway,	Enjoy the index. Let me know if you find any mistakes.

Synopsis:	Note: this issue follows Uncanny X-Men 316-318 and X-Men II:36-37.
Paige jogs at dawn, and Jubes, in raincoat and bear-paw slippers, berates her
for getting up so early. Paige husks instead of showering, and Jubes says when
she was ³with the X-Men² they never left their skin lying around. M swoops out of
the sky, unwilling to hide her powers. Sheıs a rich, beautiful egotist, and it
takes a truck to deliver her luggage.
Jono files in from England, giving a glimpse of his ³bio-nuclear psionic
biokenetic field² to a nosy and precocious girl on the plane. He thinks heıs a
freak.
Ev and Angelo spar: Angelo surprise-attacks; Ev synchs his skin power; they
entangle. Sean takes the girls on a tour and shows them the biosphere (Jubes: ³A
Danger Grotto?²). Ev and Angelo crash in; Sean bickers with Emma over letting
them train before theyıre ready.
Emplate and D.O.A. wait for Jono at Logan Airport, while Sean takes Jubes and
Ev to pick him up. M finds her old mentor Gateway in the yard and realizes why.
Emplate, out of synch with normal space, walks through the airport undetected. He
bypasses an old mutant, hungering for something younger. Ev says he understands
human fear of mutants, since they all passed through the metal detector.
Emplate sucks the marrow from Jonoıs bones with the mouth in his palm, and
Sean wails. Emplate rechannels Jonoıs and Seanıs powers back at them, but Ev just
absorbs it. Jono blasts full-force, which Emplate didnıt think was possible. The
rest of the team arrives courtesy Gatewayıs portal; Emplate canıt read M, but she
knows him. Paige attacks and gets bloodied, and Sean remembers the deaths of John
Proudstar (Uncanny X-Men 94) and Blink (X-Men II:37), but Jubes just rips her
skin off, to release her new form underneath. Emplate promises to eat each of
them, but then fades away. Emma telepathically stops M from rushing him, but she
bristles at the intrusion. Emma has also masked them all from the crowd. Jubes
welcomes Jono to the team. Emplate returns to his lighthouse (?), hungry, but the
captive he feeds on has escaped.
Back at school, Angelo lights a cigarette, Emma enjoys their victory, and
Gateway is on the lawn. Sean demands answers, but he just says, ³Penance² and
leaves a girl lying nearby.
Note: 5 sketches of the team follow.

Synopsis:	In the rain, Jubes takes Ev to the roof, to question Gateway (he
teleported her from a California mall to Australia, Uncanny X-Men 244). He
ignores her, of course, and Ev has to stop her from hitting him with a
flashlight. They leave Gateway with his regrets.
Emma bandages Seanıs hands, cut when he carried Penance inside. She offers to
dull his pain, but he warns her to stay out of his head. Emma canıt read
Penanceıs mind, but M deduces that Emplate has been feeding on her.
Angelo and Paige play Scrabble: he calls her a hick; she calls him a loser.
Jono stands outside in a major storm, and then alarms go off: Penance has
escaped, trashing the infirmary. Bxlomrmlezq! The team searches for her, but she
runs toward the river to Jono, who is also trapped in a ravaged body. Paige tries
to impress Sean but is still unskilled. Emma is infuriated by M, who is too
skilled and condescending.
In Monaco, a gunman tries to assassinate Mıs father, but his gauntlet and
then his hand are invisibly yanked off.
Penanceıs footprints end, and Sean realizes sheıs underground, hunting them.

Penance plays possum and then counterattacks; Sean screams, but she just uses the
blast as momentum to burrow away.
In Samoa, Mondo used his power to rescue children, but heıd rather stay on
the beach with Cordelia than go be a superhero.

impenetrable. They tussle, but then she runs. Sean arrives and has them take
Paige to the infirmary.
Elsewhere, Nanny helps Orphan Maker with his armor. He is growing up.
Emma has M ambush Penance; then tries to probe her mind but gets nothing but
backlash. This rouses Penance, and when M grabs her, Sean blasts them apart
before she loses a limb on Penanceıs razor-sharp skin.
Jubes finds a swirling fire in the woods: Jono has Penance cornered, talks
sweetly to her, lets her put her hand on his face, and gets her to surrender.

are stopped by a police roadblock. There is a hostage situation in a school:
Eliot, a deformed mutant, came on invitation of the teacher, Lorenzano, but now
everyone is terrified.
Penance is in the biosphere, playing with butterflies, and Jono brings her a
snack. Emma catches Paige spying on them but has no problem with that.
Nanny sends Orphan Maker to rescue Eliot. Sean uses his sonics to put a cop
to sleep and tells Ev to synch with Eliot and find out what his power is. Ev
instead detects the nearest mutant under an ice-cream truck.
Lorenzano has a heart attack. Orphan Maker attacks Eliotıs parents, but Sean
intervenes. M takes a turn and gets punched through a windshield. Meanwhile, Sean
has expected Jubes to ignore orders and sneak inside. She finds Eliot distraught,
holding the body of Lorenzano, the only one who ever helped him. Angelo wraps
himself around Orphan Maker and shorts out his armor, but he escapes.

The others are in Manhattan. Jubes gets trampled by Grimm and the mob of fans
chasing him. M goes catatonic, and they canıt budge her from Rockefeller Plaza.
Angelo bumps into a criminal friend of his from L.A.: he wants to be thought dead
and roughs up the guy to keep him silent.
In the biosphere, Sean tries to talk with Penance in various languages. His

know how to react. Penance goes to the kitchen and lets Sean give her an apple.

the car crashes, and they find dead guards pinned to the wall. Emma
