X-Day 2003 - http://www.xday.info/

Accounts

Every person who will submit an entry to X-Day or participate in voting must first set up a named account with a password and associated email address. You need to log in to this account to make any kind of changes on the site. However, you do not need to sign up in order to simply browse the site or see other peoples' submissions. Setting up an account should only take a few minutes, and it should be as easy as getting a YahooGroups account. You now use web site forms to do all submissions and voting; you do not send anything by email any more.

Named accounts are used to make the site easier to use and help with quality control. All entries you submit and all votes you make are associated with your account. This allows you to update them later if you made a mistake; you no longer have to "vote a second time" to correct the first time, or if you forgot you voted. But while votes are tied to you, do not worry as they will not be attributed on the site; no one but you will know how you voted.

This also conveniently ties together everything that someone changes on the site, so if the X-Day Manager has to step in and deal with cheating, then that activity is easier to discover and correct. Note: people are always assumed innocent of wrongdoing until proven guilty.

Your named account can also have an 'about' page associated with it, where you can post a small bio for people viewing your work to know more about you; it also lets them see all of your submitted works grouped together for convenience. You may not have any 'adult' info in your 'about' page.

You get your named account using an automated form on the site. In order to create a named account, you need to provide a working email address of yours, to which any X-Day related messages for you will be sent. A random number will be automatically emailed to that address, which you must enter on the website to activate your account. This ensures that people don't make up a false address or enter someone else's; it must be one the applicant can read themselves. But don't worry, I will never spam you or give your address to someone else. Also, it will only be published on the website if you want it to be.

Only one named account is allowed per person, and you may not share a named account with someone else. If you forget your password or account name then you can just provide your email address to receive help in recalling it. If you forgot that you even had an account then you will be reminded when you enter the same email address. Do not try to create multiple accounts for yourself on purpose as doing so will disqualify you from participating in X-Day.

This site has been designed to be fully useable on any web browser; you should be able to navigate to all site pages, use all input forms, and read all of the site text, including all Fan Fiction. However, this site is graphics-oriented and will look better in a relatively new web browser that supports images and cascading style sheets; obviously, you also will need graphics support to view the Fan Art. The site should be fast even to dial-up modem users.
