Grizzly joins Weapon PRIME in its plan to take down Cable. Domino plans with Cable to blow up the Adirondack base, so Tolliver will think they are all dead. Warpath offers his reservation as a new base (since his people were all killed by the Hellfire Club, he inherited the whole thing). Then Crule falls out of the sky onto the IPAC and attacks Sam. Cable and Domino/Copycat break into Tolliver's Sicilian base, down Pico, and find the real Domino, a captive. Deadpool arrives and stabs the false Domino before she can blab. The team agrees to rescue Sunspot from Gideon. Cable and a now free Domino defeat Deadpool and go after Tolliver. They catch his helicopter, and Cable makes Domino drop off before she is killed. He sends her to help X-Force (she has no idea what he's talking about), blows up the copter, and bodyslides to Greymalkin to have the left side of his face recovered with skin. Gideon offers Sunspot to Sam if he agrees to never interfere with the Externals. Deal. Sam, Theresa, and James spring Roberto from the lab. He has been overcharged with energy, and Sam flies him high up, so he can discharge (explosively) without hurting anyone. In Sicily, Copycat crawls and Deadpool ports away. Sinister is holding Val and Stevie hostage in Westchester, and dares Bishop to do something about it. Bishop blows a hole clean through his skull, but he keeps on going. He claims to be there to help, and drops a note on Val, letting her know who their real enemy is. Forearm drags Scott and Jean to Stryfe, who greets them as father and mother. So far: there's been a lot more fighting, as the X-teams track Cable, thinking he is Stryfe. Stryfe has been amusing himself with Scott and Jean. Stryfe has gone to beat on Apocalypse, who realizes who he is. Stryfe stabs him with the blade he once used to kill him, but he ports away before Stryfe can ensure he is dead. The Dark Riders ally with the fittest: Stryfe. Aboard Greymalkin (revealed to be a space station), Cable has Professor tell Wolverine and Bishop about Stryfe, an anarchist from the future who has fled to the past. Cable reveals he himself is a member of the rebel Clan Chosen, and he fled to the past after failing to overthrow the High Lords of New Canaan. Stryfe and Cable have the same face, but Cable doesn't know why. In Westchester, the infirmary is full of the X-injured, including Boomer with a broken jaw. The rest of X-Force is being held in the Danger Room, except for Sam, whom Havok sends to keep them content in their cages. Siryn finds out that her affair with Jamie was actually with a dupe, and he doesn't love her. Beast plans a desperate attempt to remove the virus from Xavier's skull. Jean and Scott realize that Stryfe has been dampening their powers himself, which makes him quite formidable. Once he leaves, they break out of their cell. Apocalypse crashes into the mansion with an offer to help them defeat Stryfe. So far: Stryfe and Cable are brothers, and one of them is baby Nathan (Scott and Madelyn Pryor's son, sent to the future with a techno-organic virus in X-Factor 68). Apocalypse cures Xavier of a similar virus. Stryfe is holding Scott and Jean on the moon, where the X-teams go to rescue them. Stryfe fights Cable on the moon, hinting that Cable is an inferior clone of himself. Psylocke realizes Apocalypse is dying, and Warren goes to find him, but refuses to kill him and so follow his philosophy of survival of the fittest. Havok wakes and helps Cable against Stryfe, allowing Jean and Scott to break free and join the fray. They try to get Stryfe to stop fighting and let them help him, but he doesn't trust them and blames them for his whole sorry life. Cable tosses a device to Scott and tells him to activate it while he wrestles with Stryfe. Scott has a bad feeling about this, but has no choice but to push the button, and both Cable and Stryfe disappear in an exploding time vortex. They are greeted first by armed guards, but then are welcomed and feted. Firestar delivers their sad news: the Hellions are dead; Emma Frost is in a coma (Uncanny X-Men 281-282). Firestar realizes that Empath has the entire town under his mental control, and he has Magma, Sam, and James attack her. But Firestar's microwave blast breaks his mind control, and he explains that Nova Roma is not really a Roman colony. It was built by a nostalgic Selene, and the inhabitants were kidnapped from modern society. Magma's real name is Allison Crestmere, and she is British. Empath promises to help them all return to their real lives, thereby giving up his only chance for happiness. Back in Massachusetts, James gets the White Queen's records on the Hellions, and Firestar destroys them. That chapter is ended. Firestar gives in to Namorita's pestering and takes a new costume. Gyrich and Clarke put Bridge on the carpet for goofing the Weapon: PRIME operation (iss. 13), so he quits. Boomer designs new costumes for the team. Siryn explains to Xavier that she wants to be with X-Force because they are like her: wounded and angry inside. Sam assembles his team and confronts Xavier, and he agrees that they can go their own way. Feral kills a field mouse that Sam had used as an object lesson. They have Lila port them up there, to recover Cable's stuff. In Australia, Domino finds Grizzly and demands his help in finding X-Force. In Switzerland, Nicodemus grows suddenly ill, then bursts into flame. They get his help to attack the other Externals. Sam talks to Xavier, who knows very little about them, and they debate whether Sam can break his promise to Gideon (iss. 15) since the Externals kidnapped his teammates (iss. 21). Cornered by Weapon: PRIME, Domino and Grizzly escape through the sewer, and get away in Hammer's Winnebago-jet. In Oregon, Sunspot, Feral, Shatterstar, and Rictor crash their IPAC into Saul's house, and attack before he and Gideon can rally. They free Warpath, Boomer, and Siryn, remind the Externals that Sam technically kept his promise, and warn them to leave them alone, despite Saul's plea that the Externals may all die unless they can study Sam. In Massachusetts, Copycat has escaped and is packing to leave when she is caught again by Sluggo and Deadpool. Then Domino, Grizzly, and Hammer show up, and Copycat quickly offers to lead them to X-Force. The IPAC returns to base in Arizona (last iss.), having dumped Crule into the Pacific Ocean. Sam immediately preps the team to rescue Rusty and Skids (they had been teammates, New Mutants 72), at Xavier's request. In Massachusetts, Grizzly restrains Domino from killing Copycat, and she promises to lead them to X-Force. In orbit above earth, Magneto finds the remains of Greymalkin, which he calls his new home. Sam is getting used to leadership, as X-force quickly overcomes the FOH and frees Rusty and Skids, who are still brainwashed by Stryfe. Issue: X-Force 25 Date: Aug-93 Story: Back to Front (33 pages) Feature Characters: Cable, Cannonball, Boomer, Feral, Warpath, Shatterstar, Siryn, Rictor, Sunspot Regular Characters: Professor Guest Stars: Rusty, Skids; Quicksilver, the Scarlet Witch, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue, Beast, Banshee, Polaris (on video) Villains: Magneto, Exodus Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Fabian Nicieza Pencils: Greg Capullo Inks: Bob Wiacek, Green, Matt Ryan, Palmiotti, Scott Hanna, Kevin Conrad, Al Milgrom Letters: Chris Eliopoulos Colors: George Roussos Editor: Bob Harras Editor-in-Chief: Tom DeFalco Synopsis: Note: this is part 3 of the Fatal Attractions crossover, celebrating 30 years of X-Men. X-Force returns to Arizona, and Feral smells an intruder, so they split up to search the camp. Each is ambushed in turn, but then Sam counterattacks. Turns out it was Cable (his idea of a "Hi, howya been?quot;). He greets the team, and explains it was Stryfe who killed Rictor's father, and Gideon Roberto's. He hugs Sam and calls him "son," promising to be less military and more like family from now on. He determines that Stryfe implanted neural tissue into Rusty and Skids to control them, like he did Tyler (he lied when he said Tyler was dead, iss. 1). He plans to fix them on Greymalkin. Sam doesn't trust him, so Cable summarizes his history (sent to the future to stop Apocalypse, but failed, so came back to stop him early through Sam). Exodus arrives, wanting to take Sam and Roberto to Avalon. He easily defeats X-Force, makes his offer, and agrees with Sam to take the other ex-New Mutants (Rictor, Boomer, Rusty, Skids), as well. Sam has arranged for Cable to trace them, and all are very impressed with Sam. Exodus gives them the tour of Avalon, formerly Greymalkin. Professor has been silenced, and Magneto is in charge. He routes Rusty and Skid's blood flow to kill Stryfe's brain implants, freeing them. Cable flies up with the rest of the team, realizes Greymalkin has been commandeered, feels violated, and breaks in. Exodus attacks. Sam tells Cable to let Magneto keep the station, as a haven for mutants. Rusty and Skids are staying. Cable retrieves Professor, but Magneto attacks him before he can self-destruct the base, turning him into half a pile of scrap metal. He bodyslides away. Magneto realizes he has lost the philosophical battle for leadership of the next generation of mutants.
