Pietro, his father's own Amnesty International, sees Genoshan soldiers holding a human family who tried to escape, and orders them returned unharmed to their home. Magneto has segregated humans but forbidden them to emigrate, because their skills are needed. Pipeline has digitized and sent workers into the fusion plant to repair it. A component falls from the ceiling; Magneto arrives, with Lorna ever at his side, and magnetically chains the component in place again. The sole remaining human outpost, Carrion Cove, has not been taken yet. Huxley is furious because the UN has assigned an advisor to her. Lorna is following Magneto's advice to explore her control of magnetism. Pietro, her old teammate (X-Factor 71-94), finds her sitting on the ceiling of her home. He is worried and wonders why she is helping Magneto. She explains that after Havok's apparent death (X-Factor 149), she didn't feel in control of her life, but when Apocalypse paired her with Magneto (X-Men II:97), she felt powerful and wants more, to find a way to bring Havok home. They embrace as friends and allies. Scanner sees soldiers who died trying to conquer Carrion Cove, then plays a surveillance video for Voght and Cargill. They observe Senyaka's whip and realize the humans have hired help, which means they must be able to pay them, which means they're hiding something important. Voght goes to find out. Huxley calls on the UN to end economic sanctions; they have decided to send an investigator. Voght finds the mayor of Carrion Cove and the mercenary Acolytes. She says they can't defeat Magneto unless they give her a good reason to help. Carrion Cove forces attack Magneto's. Pietro disarms many, then searches the town, finding their secret. Voght knocks him out. Magneto and Lorna meet the UN plane; he talks to someone in his head. Huxley disembarks with the UN inspector: the Scarlet Witch. Issue: Magneto: Dark Seduction 2 Date: Jul-00 Story: Magneto Part 2: Rotten Apples (24 pages) Feature Characters: Magneto Regular Characters: Fabian Cortez, Polaris, Scanner, Pipeline, Jenny Ransome, Phillip Moreau, Dr. Alda Huxley, Amelia Voght, Quicksilver, Joanna Cargill Guest Stars: Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel (all in flashback); Gabrielle Haller; Michelle Devereaux; Adm. Suvorov; the Avengers: the Scarlet Witch, Iron Man (Tony Stark), She- Hulk (Jennifer Walters), Goliath (Hank Pym), Wasp (Janet Van Dyne), Triathlon (DelRoy Garret, Jr.), Warbird (Carol Danvers) Villains: mayor B–erke and her hired Acolytes: Senyaka, Barnacle, Rem-Ram, Harlan and Sven Kleinstock, Spoor, Projector, Static; Toad, Mastermind (both in flashback) Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Fabian Nicieza Pencils: Roger Cruz Inks: Andy Owens, Morales, Thibert Letters: Sharpefont & PT Colors: Mike Rockwitz Editor: Mark Powers Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: Magneto tells Wanda he has brought a new day to Genosha; she wants to see Carrion Cove, but he admits he is still in process of conquering it. She wonders what to believe and admits to herself she's not objective. Pietro is back on his feet. He agrees with Voght that Magneto can't be trusted with the secret in Carrion Cove but doesn't trust her or B–erke either, especially since they've taken help from Roxxon corporation. Magneto's forces under Moreau allow themselves to be defeated, so Pipeline can port troops to the other side and take over. Wanda inspects Magneto's farmlands; he explains he has socialized the economy (without using that word), she insists on interviewing the humans. Cortez is a traitor, working with Suvorov to super-power the Carrion Cove Acolytes. He warns him that the equipment has malfunctioned and suggests he deploy the contingency plan. Wanda finds the humans restricted but content. Things are better than they were, and they have traded away freedom for security. Magneto has a voice in his head, which tells him his iron grip is breaking. Pietro orders Pipeline to stand down before taking the town. Pipeline realizes he knows the secret and shoots at the fastest man in the world, who ducks. So he ports him down the electrical line and advances, planning to take the town and overthrow Magneto. The UN observes and activates their elite task force. Wanda asks her father if he has built a haven or a launchpad for conquest. He asks her to decide for herself. Cargill attacks the mayor's bunker and Voght defends her, so Pipeline ports her away. Just then, there is an explosion. The UN has sent the Avengers. Issue: Magneto: Dark Seduction 3 Date: Aug-00 Story: Magneto Part 3: Something Worth Fighting For (22 pages) Feature Characters: Magneto Regular Characters: Fabian Cortez, Polaris, Scanner, Pipeline, Jenny Ransome, Phillip Moreau, Dr. Alda Huxley, Amelia Voght, Quicksilver, Joanna Cargill Guest Stars: the Avengers: the Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, She-Hulk, Goliath, Wasp, Triathlon, Warbird Villains: the Stranger (in flashback) Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Fabian Nicieza Pencils: Roger Cruz Inks: Andy Owens, Thibert Letters: Sharpefont & PT Colors: Mike Rockwitz Editor: Mark Powers Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: Cargill punches She-Hulk. Pipeline brings Pietro back, to try to stop the battle, since everyone wants to stop Magneto from getting the technology in Carrion Cove. Magneto shows up with Lorna, tells Pietro he expected betrayal, wraps him in pipes, and attacks the Avengers' bloodstreams. Cortez has left; Wanda demands to watch a message sent to him, which shows Magneto fighting Avengers. Huxley realizes Cortez is a traitor. Magneto demands the Avengers leave; Iron Man recalibrates and blasts him. Voght rematerializes and ports Pietro out of his bonds, while Magneto and Lorna hold off the Avengers. The voice in Magneto's head tells him to release her before she overloads. Pietro goes to destroy the technology, but Cargill confronts him. He insists the Avengers aren't anti-mutant; Wanda shows up and collapses the cliff-side under Cargill. Pietro explains: secret genetic technology of unknown origin (from Sugarman, see X-Man 6), as advanced as Sinister or the High Evolutionary, is hidden in the caves near Carrion Cove. Magneto could use it to make an army of super- mutants or regain his own power. Huxley arrests Cortez for treason. He buys his life with dirty corporate and UN secrets. Lorna is tiring; Magneto has to end it quickly, so he wrenches power through her and collapses the entire city off its cliff. Lorna quickly reaches out to slow the falling debris, while the Avengers and Acolytes save civilians. Magneto gets to the caves and, with regret, knocks out his children to get to the technology. But then Lorna confronts him. Issue: Magneto: Dark Seduction 4 Date: Sep-00 Story: Magneto Part 4: By Right of Force (22 pages) Feature Characters: Magneto Regular Characters: Fabian Cortez, Polaris, Scanner, Pipeline, Jenny Ransome, Phillip Moreau, Dr. Alda Huxley, Amelia Voght, Quicksilver, Joanna Cargill Guest Stars: the Avengers: the Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, She-Hulk, Goliath, Wasp, Triathlon, Warbird Villains: Other Characters: Credits: Writer & Pencils: Fabian Nicieza, Michael Ryan, Jorge Santamaria Garcia Inks: Florea, McAdo, Mei, Ramos, Candelario Letters: Sharpefont & PT Colors: Mike Rockwitz Editor: Mark Powers Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: Lorna has learned well and is powerful enough to stop Magneto. The voice in his head tries to dissuade him, but he fights her and enters the mutagenic chamber to restore his own powers. The Avengers and the Acolytes collect the survivors from Carrion Cove. Lorna grabs at the E-M spectrum, Wanda uses her hex power, and Pietro races around disconnecting things, to try to stop Magneto's restoration. But, "The Master of Magnetism has returned!" Huxley frees Cortez, who is now superfluous. Magneto freezes Iron Man's armor, makes She-Hulk punch Warbird then attacks her blood, and traps Triathlon in metal debris. He has Wanda, Pietro, and Lorna in a magnetic bubble and demands the Avengers leave his country. He demonstrates his power by catching up Cortez, fifty miles away, and slamming him into the ground at his feet. Executed for treason. He reaches out into space and moves satellites, threatening to pull them down onto cities around the world if the Avengers attack; the Wasp orders them to stand down, and Magneto frees them. Magneto's children express their disgust at his power-mongering. Lorna does what Alex would want and leaves. Magneto rebuilds Carrion Cove and plans for the future. Epilogue: Lorna and Pietro, in a small boat, plan for war. Issue: X-Men: Declassified Date: Oct-00 Story: X-Men: Declassified (38 pages) Feature Characters: Wolverine, Gambit, Shadowcat; holograms of Rogue, Colossus, Beast, Cable, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Prof. X, Phoenix, Thunderbird III, Storm, Shadowcat, Wolverine Regular Characters: Guest Stars: holograms of X-Man, the White Queen, Generation X: Husk, M, Skin, Synch, Jubilee, Chamber; X-Force: Bedlam, Cannonball, Warpath, Meltdown; Polaris Villains: Bastion; holograms of the Rogue monster; Acolytes including Amelia Voght, Fabian Cortez; the Hand, Mystique, the Phoenix Force, Onslaught, Lucifer, Mr. Sinister, the Shadow King as Amahl Farouk, the Neo, Sebastian Shaw, Apocalypse, Magneto Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Karl Bollers Pencils: Pascual Ferry Inks: Andy Owens, Rick Ketcham Letters: Chris Giarrusso Colors: Hi-Fi Design Editor: Mark Powers Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: Logan, Remy, and Kitty unsubtly break into a military facility. They split up to find their objective. They each find holograms and readouts on their teammates, with the following amazing revelations: When Rogue was twelve she was absorbed by a monster calling itself Rogue, which took her place. While Piotr was with the Acolytes (UXM 304- X-Men II:44), he went on a mission to attack a Russian space station. While working to cure the Legacy Virus, Hank injected himself with it. As head of the Thieves' Guild, Remy allied with the Hand. The baby that Mystique ran away with looked normal at first, then turned blue like Kurt (X- Men Unlimited 4). When Betsy guided the shuttle to Earth (X- Men II:101), she manifested the Phoenix Force. Onslaught was Lucifer (UXM 20-21), using Xavier as a vessel. Sinister cloned Jean many times, including the one that was found at the bottom of Jamaica Bay (Avengers 263). In India, Neal bullied mutants. The Shadow King through Amahl Farouk controlled Ororo as a girl in Cairo. Kitty is a Neo changeling, swapped in the hospital (Seth said she was one of them, X- Men II:100). Emma Frost planned with Sebastian Shaw to take over Generation X. Apocalypse is the one who originally gave Logan his adamantium. X-Force attacked Magneto in Genosha and took out Polaris, who is his real source of power. They warn him to toe the line. After this data overload, Logan and Kitty are attacked by holograms. Kitty shows up, having retrieved the data they came for: the facility had downloaded Xavier's files from Bastion's head, and Carol Danvers let the X- Men know where it was. It remains to be seen how much of this is real, and how much is Bastion's conjecture. Note: bios of Rogue, Colossus, Beast, Cable, X- Man, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Prof. X, Phoenix, Thunderbird, Storm, Shadowcat, and Wolverine are interspersed throughout the story. Issue: Black Sun: X-Men 1 Date: Nov-00 Story: First Spell: Skin the Cat! (23 pages) Feature Characters: Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Storm, Sunfire, Banshee Regular Characters: Guest Stars: Magik Villains: N'Garai demons, Belasco Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Chris Claremont Pencils: Thomas Derenick Inks: Sean Parsons Letters: Pop Visuals Colors: Tom Smith Editor: Mike Marts Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: Note: this series marks the 25th anniversary of the New X-Men (Giant-Sized, Jun-75). At Christmas, Kitty goes to Grant Park in Chicago to fight a N'Garai demon, like she did before she joined the X-Men. She uses one of Logan's bone claws but gets smacked away, then she phases its legs into the tarmac, disrupting its nervous system by phasing herself through it, and slashes it dead with the claw. End program: she is in the Danger Room, and the computer says her performance was below par. She agrees: she is angry and distracted. She doesn't feel at home in the mansion any more, and she has a picture collection of dead friends. She signs for a delivery, then naps, and Belasco emerges from the package. A N'Garai wakes Kitty; she nails it with one shot. Outside the mansion, she sees Capt. America's dead body, then a mountain of skulls under a red, devastated moon. She tries to think what villain could be playing with her mind, then helps Kurt and Piotr, the last X-Men, fighting more N'Garai. She realizes they can neutralize mutant powers and nearly gets her spine broken, but Ororo appears with lightning. Sunfire and Banshee provide backup, but they decide to retreat to the mansion and activate the automated defenses. Kurt explains that N'Garai cairns suddenly appeared around the world and began to slaughter the entire human race. They lock themselves in the Danger Room and begin a spell to close the cairns. They draw a pentagram, and each sacrifices a drop of blood into a chalice. It turns to water, and Kitty drinks it down. Fire explodes from her, revealing that the spell actually swaps N'Garai souls with the X-Men, and they are in Limbo. Belasco has tricked Kitty and plans to make five bloodstones from the original X-Men, to open the door to the Elder Gods, who have given Belasco a new arm as earnest. He tears Kitty's soul from her chest as a "catalyst stone." Magik appears (she died in UXM 303, Aug- 93) and swordplay ensues. Belasco is about to defeat her, but Kitty recovers and slices through his sword with Logan's claw, so he ports away. Kitty and Magik see a cairn and realize that the N'Garai want to conquer Limbo to get access to all dimensions. A N'Garai emerges. Issue: Black Sun: X-Men 2 Date: Nov-00 Story: Second Spell: Spear the Angel! (23 pages) Feature Characters: Shadowcat, Phoenix, Beast, Archangel, Iceman, Polaris, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Banshee, Sunfire, Storm, Wolverine, Psylocke, Thunderbird III; Thunderbird I (in flashback) Regular Characters: Guest Stars: Magik Villains: N'Garai demons, Ru'Tai including Pilgrimm Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Chris Claremont, Len Wein Pencils: Thomas Derenick Inks: Mark McKenna Letters: Pop Visuals Colors: Tom Smith Editor: Mike Marts Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: Magik makes short shrift of the demon and explains that when Belasco encased Kitty in crystal (UXM 160), he bound her with a spell of dominion, which is how he kidnapped her (last iss.). Since Kitty no longer has her soul, Magik merges her form into the Soulsword until she can get it back. Belasco appears and shows Magik a devastated earth, but she dispels the vision. In Hong Kong, Pilgrimm impersonates a Chinese colonel and kills 169 people (13 times 13) to open the cairn for his people. Belasco has sent N'Garai within the new X- Men to capture the original X-Men, and Magik goes to stop them. In Radiance Luminology, a Ru'Tai has been under observation (since X-Men II:75). Suddenly a cairn appears, and the Ru'Tai jumps onto it and disappears, but Pilgrimm appears and kills all the guards. Betsy and Neal are on their way to the lab, but Warren follows and attacks them. He is jealous, which just makes Betsy angry. Neal hears gunfire in the lab, but Magik appears, and then Ororo arrives with lightning and a windstorm. Warren escapes into a thick forest. Neal attacks Magik, assuming she is a villain (what with the horns and all) who is controlling Ororo. Pilgrimm passes through, slamming Neal out of the way, and Magik takes Neal away in a stepping disk. Warren realizes Ororo has been possessed; she is about to get jumped by Pilgrimm, but Warren saves her. She repays him by taking the air out of his wings. He's down but not out, and Pilgrimm makes it a three-way fight. Ororo makes a snowstorm and flash-freezes the area, then takes Betsy hostage. Pilgrimm knocks her down; Neal blasts him; Warren flies Betsy out of the way. Pilgrimm ports away, and Ororo steals Warren's soul and ports away before Magik can stop her. She merges Warren's body into her Soulsword, for safekeeping. Issue: Black Sun: X-Men 3 Date: Nov-00 Story: Third Spell: Bare Claws! (23 pages) Feature Characters: Thunderbird III, Psylocke, Wolverine, Iceman, Banshee, Sunfire, Polaris; Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Storm, Shadowcat, Colossus (in flashback) Regular Characters: Guest Stars: Magik Villains: N'Garai demons, Pilgrimm, Magneto; Keirrok, Belasco (in flashback) Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Chris Claremont, Roy Thomas Pencils & Inks: Karl Waller Letters: Pop Visuals Colors: Tom Smith Editor: Mike Marts Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: The N'Garai have evolved "a light-year" since their first appearance. Neal blasts one as it emerges from a cairn. Magik has brought him and Betsy to Limbo and created an illusion of the X-mansion. Neal demands that Magik prove she's not a villain; she retells how Scott first blasted the cairn and accidentally released Keirrok, the X-Men fought N'Garai more than once, and now Belasco has allied with them (UXM 96, 143). Neal blasts the cairn full-force, but it is magic, and he is unable to harm it. Magik leaves him there to guard Betsy, who is unconscious, and goes after Belasco's pawns, the new X-Men. Logan and Bobby are in Genosha, where reconstruction is under way. They aren't happy that Magneto is in charge and want to make sure he isn't fostering hate crimes. Banshee and Sunfire come out of the sky and attack them. Sunfire blasts Bobby's ice slide, and Banshee's wail renders everyone unconscious. He flies to Magneto's citadel to kill Magneto and abduct Lorna, but Pilgrimm interrupts. While they fight, Lorna (who now wears a skull on her breast) recovers, wraps them both in metal, and throws Banshee through the roof. Bobby encases Sunfire with ice; he quickly melts it and blasts Bobby, but then realizes he is encased in a larger shell of ice, which melts under his blast, flooding and sweeping him away. Lorna surrounds Bobby with metal poles and demands to know why he's here. He says he doesn't want her to ruin her life, freezes the poles and busts them. They go to find Sunfire; Bobby encases him in super-cold ice to keep him unconscious, but it doesn't work, and then Banshee wails again. Logan has meanwhile recovered and attacks Pilgrimm. Lorna coats herself in metal and lets Pilgrimm strike her (big mistake), but then Sunfire blasts him, and he ports away. Banshee hits Logan with a wall of sound; Bobby super-cools the air around him, freezing his vocal cords; Sunfire sends a sustained blast toward Bobby, and Lorna surrenders before he gets killed. The N'Garai knock both of them down, then extract their souls and port away. Magik appears, again too late, and Logan confronts her, then sheathes his claws when he sees who she is. She puts Bobby and Lorna's bodies into her Soulsword and ports away with Logan. Issue: Black Sun: X-Men 4 Date: Nov-00 Story: Fourth Spell: Light the Fire! (23 pages) Feature Characters: Thunderbird III, Wolverine, Beast, Phoenix, Rogue, Cable, Gambit, Colossus, Nightcrawler Regular Characters: Guest Stars: Magik, Moonstar Villains: N'Garai demons, Pilgrimm Other Characters: Father Innocent Credits: Writer: Chris Claremont, Louise Simonson Pencils: Alitha Martinez Inks: John Stanisci Letters: Pop Visuals Colors: Tom Smith Editor: Mike Marts Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: Neal has been in Limbo blasting hordes of N'Garai, but he is finally overwhelmed. Magik proves she is capable of arriving in time and brings Logan to the rescue. She leaves the guys there and goes to stop Belasco's X-Men. A cairn has appeared in Rome. The Vatican has identified it in an ancient book of sorcery, and the Pope calls for prayer. There are thirteen around the world, and Hank is there to investigate. He senses Jean, even though she was telepathically masking herself. She wears a new uniform, trying to look forward rather than past. She has sent Rogue to patrol the cairn at the Pyramids, Nathan to the Great Wall of China, Remy to Notre Dame de Paris, and Moonstar to the one at Dr. Strange's home. She says she's lost touch with some of the X-Men, and others have been possessed. She realizes she and Hank are the only original X-Men left. She senses a telepathic dead zone in the Sistine Chapel. They find Pilgrimm knocking Colossus down; Jean mind-blasts Pilgrimm; he throws a chunk of pavement at her; Hank catches it and attacks Pilgrimm, demanding an explanation. Pilgrimm says he just wants to beat the N'Garai, and Earth is the prize. Jean takes Hank to the astral plane; she says when she lost her telekinetic power to Betsy (X-Men II:77, presumably) she gained her special telepathic skills and affinity for shadows and now appears clothed in them. She enhances Hank's neural network, which gives him "Thing-level strength" and hyper- reflexes, and he gives Pilgrimm a run for his money. Nightcrawler observes, waiting for Colossus to awaken. Magik arrives, weakened in the Vatican because she is tainted with sorcery (didn't stop the cairn, did it?). Nightcrawler beats her in a sword fight. Jean has no choice; she mind-links to all her foes, but the N'Garai use that opening to mesmerize her, and Hank has to knock her down to free her. He is caught in psychic backlash, and Colossus extracts his soul and holds his body hostage. Magik throws her sword, merging Hank's body into it, and ports away from Nightcrawler. The N'Garai claim victory and leave; Magik ports to Limbo with Jean. She says she must face Belasco while the X-Men stop the N'Garai in Limbo. Issue: Black Sun: X-Men 5 Date: Nov-00 Story: Final Spell: Cast the Magik! (23 pages) Feature Characters: Thunderbird III, Wolverine, Phoenix, colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, Sunfire, Archangel, Beast, Iceman, Polaris, Shadowcat Regular Characters: Guest Stars: Magik (Amanda Sefton) Villains: Belasco, N'Garai demons, Pilgrimm Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Chris Claremont Pencils: Pablo Raimondi Inks: Jason Martin, Team X Letters: Pop Visuals Colors: Tom Smith Editor: Mike Marts Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: Belasco has his five bloodstones and is poised to open wide the N'Garai cairns. Neal leads the X-Men's attack on the N'Garai in Limbo, blasting so fiercely he fuses the ground to glass. Then Logan goes berserk. Jean attacks the N'Garai telepathically while she boosts her teammates. She feels and rejects the temptation to ultimate power. Magik approaches Belasco's citadel and recorporates the X-Men in her sword. They can't die in Limbo unless she wills it, and she needs them to distract Belasco's X-Men while she attacks him. Bobby puts the whole citadel on deep freeze, but it doesn't help, and X-Men attack X-Men. Pilgrimm has gone into the mansion and captured Betsy. Jean psi-blasts him, then realizes he hates the N'Garai and convinces him to go after Belasco, instead. Shadowcat distracts Belasco while Magik gets to the bloodstones and disrupts them. The X- Men's souls return to their bodies, but Belasco's spell is still active. Bobby deep-freezes the citadel again, making it a superconductor, and Lorna powers it up. Sunfire vaporizes the ice while Magik uses her Soulsword, and the citadel and its spell explode. The X-Men return home; Piotr asks it Magik is really Illyana, but she refuses to answer. Kurt identifies her as Amanda, his ex-girlfriend. She goes back to guard Limbo.
