In World War I, Strucker was a young soldier in Leipzig. He sees a floating blue jewel (the ³Momentary Princess²), which shows him the past and future and disappears before he can catch it. In World War II, the Howling Commandos are fighting Nazis in Leipzig. They are escorting Jean-Luc to get the jewel before Hitler does. Candra and Strucker, now a baron, are also on the trail. In present, Jean-Luc has asked Remy to get the jewel. He fights his way into a formal dinner party, where Conoway and the Strucker twins are gathered. They chat lasciviously. Courier gets into the New Sonıs base for the first time, delivering Quiet Bill and Huey, who ³is the key that opens the door to everywhere² (see iss. 3). Fontanelle investigates Angelıs dreams and sees him hung up in the Morlock tunnels (X-Factor 10). She asks him if he blames Remy. In 1943, Jean-Luc gets the jewel; Strucker attacks him, and Candra offers to end the pact if he gives it to her. The Commandos show up, and during the fire-fight, Jean-Luc is forced to give up the jewel, which vanishes. All vow to try again. In present, Remy makes his way to the basement, where the Earthıs orbital drift has shifted the jewel. But Sekmeht and the Struckers interrupt, and the jewel disappears during the fight. In 2028, Rogue and Remy, now married and kissing, go behind Sentinel lines to a sewer pipe, where he gets the jewel. In 2084, the Witness watches as the stasis shell, containing information, is activated in all its time windows simultaneously. He says heıs waiting for it in the past. Issue: Gambit II:11 Date: Dec-99 Story: The Hamster Run (22 pages) Feature Characters: Gambit Regular Characters: Guest Stars: Daredevil (Matt Murdock) Villains: Constrictor (Frank Schlicting), Judge Harris Buechler, Sabretooth, the New Son, Mr. Sinister, Fontanelle, Sal Donato Other Characters: Maria Volpatracelli Donato Credits: Writer & Pencils: Fabian Nicieza, Steve Skroce Inks: Andy Owens Colors: Shannon Blanchard Letters: Richard Starkings & Comicraftıs Troy Peteri Editor: Mark Powers Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: Daredevil beats on Constrictor; he has bystanders drive off the building as a distraction; DD saves them, then continues the chase. Constrictor has stolen an adamantium stomach, which was supposed to go into Judge Buechler. Remy shows up, fighting both of them. He needs adamantium to save Creed: although his healing factor is restored, he has become dependent on adamantium to survive. They fight on top of a train to Jersey, then all jump off a bridge. Fontanelle investigates Sinisterıs dreams. A century ago in America, he buys a paper with the headline ³Black Womb Killer Acquitted!²: someone is selling fetuses. Constrictor makes it to Donatoıs place; as a young man he worked for the mobster and fell in love with his daughter, whom he is now holding hostage for the stomach. His own has been destroyed by ground glass, a slow assassination attempt while he was in prison. Turns out the judge bumped Donato down on the organ donor list; Remy makes a deal: he charges the ground glass, dissipating it, Constrictor donates part of his adamantium coils to Creed, and the jerk Buechler gets the stomach. Issue: Gambit II:12 Date: Jan-00 Story: The Sunset Dawn, Book 1: The Time Trap (39 pages) Feature Characters: Gambit Regular Characters: Sekmeht Conoway, Jean Luc LeBeau, Tante Mattie, Courier Guest Stars: 1890ıs Thievesı Guild: Jacques LeBeau, Rouler (Marceaux), Belize Marceaux Villains: Candra, the Tithe Collector, the Mengos, Adam Worth alias Henry Raymond Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Fabian Nicieza Art: Steve Skroce, Rodney Ramos, Kaare Andrews, Charles Adlard Colors: Shannon Blanchard Letters: Richard Starkings & Comicraftıs Troy Peteri Editor: Mark Powers Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Special Thanks: Sven Larsen Synopsis: Remy asks Sekmeht for help. The Thievesı Guild wanted the Momentary Princess (iss. 10) to explain a hundred-year old suitcase. It contains a picture of Remy in 1891. He must go back in time, because he saved the guild from Candra; as well as rescuing Jean Luc and Tante Mattie as children. Sekmeht directs him to time platform in Latveria (last reported destroyed in X-Force 64), which is now ruled by Stryfe. He gets Courier and hires the Mengo brothers (!) to help. They sneak in, destroy some Doom-bots, and find the reassembled platform. Since Courier is also in the picture, Remy takes him to the past, leaving the Mengos to guard Sekmeht. In London in 1891, they go to Worth (a master thief, the prototype for Doyleıs Moriarty). He knows Jacques LeBeau. Candra strolls into the United Service Club in London and berates the Tithe Collector for not punishing the Thievesı Guild for failing to get the Momentary Princess (run-on sentence). Jacques had sent his son Jean Luc to get it, as his tilling, but he failed, and Candra has withheld the elixir from them, so they are rapidly aging. Remy tracks the Guild to Milbury house, Sinisterıs abandoned home (see the Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix). Candra has Jean Luc and Belize, planning to kill them to punish their fathers. She explains she wants knowledge to keep herself safe from other Externals. The Thievesı Guild has been investigating the Old Kingdom, so she allied with them. Remy has the Guild offer Candra Sinisterıs research; yet she is angered and takes the Guild members captive. Remy follows the Guild to Candra, leaving Courier behind as cover, impersonating a Bobby. The Tithe Collector uses Dr. Strange-like sorcery to get past Courier, who reverts to his true form and is knocked out. Remy bursts in, frees the Guild and confronts Candra. The research the Guild brought her was about Apocalypse, whom she doesnıt want to confront, but information on Dr. Essex could help. The Tithe Collector arrives and confirms legends of Essex, with ghostly pale face, linked to the ancient Egyptian warlord. Remy offers to bring more on Sinister, if Candra will restore the pact, but the Guild refuses his help, since they already know Essex is in New York. Candra hands over the boy Belize and promises to release Jean-Luc when the Guild returns, but Gambit doesnıt trust her, causes an explosion and escapes with Jean-Luc. Later at Worthıs place, Remy waits for Courier to wake. He sees in a newspaper that Essex, calling himself Milbury, is connected to the Black Womb. Itıs a race to New York to investigate. Issue: Gambit II:13 Date: Feb-00 Story: The Sunset Dawn, Book 2: The Black Womb (22 pages) Feature Characters: Gambit Regular Characters: Courier, Jean Luc LeBeau; Tante Matte Guest Stars: 1890ıs Thievesı Guild: Jacques LeBeau, Rouler Marceaux and his son Belize; Marius Boudreaux and his daughter Bella Donna Villains: Candra (in flashback); Mr. Sinister; Fontanelle Other Characters: Leonardo, Amanda Müeller Credits: Writer: Fabian Nicieza Pencils: Anthony Williams Inks: Andy Lanning Colors: Tom Smith Letters: Richard Starkings & Comicraftıs Troy Peteri Editor: Mike Marts Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: In 1891, Remy has blackmailed Worth (with knowledge of the stolen Duchess of Devonshire painting) to get his yacht and sail to New York. The Thievesı Guild have rented a room on the Lower East Side; Belize gets a slap from his father for questioning the ancient rituals. He has learned that Essex is operating under the alias of Dr. Milbury, obstetrician. Remy already knows that, and he convinces Courier to morph into a female form and make an appointment with him. Sinister (of course) learns of Courierıs morphing abilities; evidently that is where he learned it (but then why was he still interested in Courier in iss. 9?). In the present, Fontanelle investigates Bella Donnaıs dreams and learns she hates and loves Remy. Remy has asked the local thieves and learns that Müeller, an accused child-killer, knows about Milbury. He dappers himself up and goes to seduce her, in her 5th Avenue mansion. In the entry hall, he is attacked by the Guild. Jacques demands his son back, and Jean Luc, with regrets, smashes Remy on the head with a flower pot. Remy wakes at Müellerıs feet; she had many miscarriages, was tried and acquitted of causing them, but her husband ran off with their last child. She tells Remy where to find her doctor, Milbury. The Guild has gone there first, down secret subway tunnels, which is currently under construction. They find a repository of deformed skeletons and are mobbed by early Morlocks. Remy follows, to Sinisterıs low-tech lab. Sinister has Courier as a liquid in a jar and offers to make a deal with Remy. Issue: Gambit II:14 Date: Mar-00 Story: The Sunset Dawn, Book 3: Tomorrow Starts Today (24 pages) Feature Characters: Gambit Regular Characters: Courier, Jean Luc LeBeau; Sekmeht Conoway (in flashback) Guest Stars: 1890ıs Thievesı Guild: Jacques LeBeau, Rouler Marceaux and his son Belize; Rogue, Angel Villains: Ozymandias, Mr. Sinister, Fontanelle; the Mengo brothers (in flashback); the New Son; X-Ternals: Candra, Gideon, Saul (Garba-Hsien), Nicodemus, Burke, Absalom Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Fabian Nicieza Pencils: Anthony Williams Inks: Andy Lanning Colors: Tom Smith Letters: Richard Starkings & Comicraftıs Troy Peteri Editor: Mike Marts Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: The Thievesı Guild is trying to steal from Ozymandias for Candra; Jacques (who doesnıt know Iehovah from Yahweh) gets them caught, so he asks Ozymandias for information on Apocalypse. He gives them some texts about the Old Kingdom, then Candra shows up. Remy is with Sinister, who released the Guild two weeks ago and offers to restore Courier; now stuck in female form. All this in exchange for a piece of Courier. Remy wants ³Jaqueline² to repeat the trick (iss. 9) of killing the cells he gave to Sinister, but somehow he canıt do it. In the present, Fontanelle investigates Rogueıs dreams and warns her that Remy needs her help in the past. She needs to go to Jean Luc. Angel, who has decided to be a humanitarian, makes a deal with the New Son, and is told he must kill Remy. Candra traps Ozymandias, and the Guild translates Old Kingdom texts so she can fold space using magic. They are interrupted by Sinister, who uses Apocalypseıs transport to do the same, and Remy is with him, cards flying. Sinister has Courierıs morphing abilities now and attacks Candra, handing her over to her fellow X-Termals, who are angry she risked waking Apocalypse. Back in New York, Sinister removes the Guildıs memories of the Old Kingdom texts and locks them away in Remyıs subconscious. He notices previous work done to the base of his cerebellum, which looks like his own. Remy refuses to explain. Courier summarizes: they have saved the Guild and put the kibosh on Candra, but they gave advanced abilities to Sinister and froze Courier as a woman. Plus, they donıt know how to get back to the future. Issue: Gambit II:15 Date: Apr-00 Story: Folding City (22 pages) Feature Characters: alternate Gambits Regular Characters: Jean Luc LeBeau, Sekmeht Conoway, Anwar Anubar and Elysian Enterprises Guest Stars: Rogue Villains: the Mengo brothers; Verherrglichenn the Exalted One, Fontanelle, the New Son; Bella Donna, Gris-Gris, Sinister Other Characters: Credits: Writer: Fabian Nicieza Pencils: Yanick Paquette Inks: Sean Parsons Colors: Tom Smith Letters: Richard Starkings & Comicraftıs Troy Peteri Editor: Mike Marts Editor-in-Chief: Bob Harras Synopsis: Jean Luc tells Rogue about Remyıs time adventure. She goes to Anubar, who gives her a device he uses to track his daughter Sekmeht, and she finds herself in the mountains of Latveria. Seems Sekmeht found the Folding City, built by Dr. Doom to study holes in space, which disappeared. Rogue hears her own voice from within and investigates: itıs a maze of space-time fragments. She finds Sekmeht and the Mengos, who have been on the run (since iss. 12) from the self-Exalted One, former rent-a-cop of the facility, who controls the spatial anomalies. Turns out, heıs the Mengosı father. At his citadel, the New Son shows Fontanelle many variant realities, in all of which Remy dies with a spear in his belly. The Assassinsı Guild has a contract on Remy, and Bella Donna prepares. When Mengo pere hears Doom is out of power, he decides to expand his anomaly to all Latveria. Rogue attacks, breaking the gauntlets that he uses to control the anomaly. Various useless gates to reality open; Rogue realizes Mengo, Sr.ıs, armor is the real gate, and flies them all through him. Mengo, Sr., reaches through the rift to catch Rogueıs leg, but to his surprise his own son attacks, cutting off his forearm. With only one gauntlet left, heıs stranded inside the city. But they still donıt know where Remy is. Three months later, Mr. Sinister is monitoring mutant power levels. Sabra operates at 67%, X-Man at 85%. Then a peak 100% registers, with Remyıs signature. He sends him to kill Remy, at Courierıs behest. 3 weeks ago: Remy has trouble controlling his powers; he burns Colossus and Rogue in the Danger Room and explodes things at random. He remembers: to return from 1891 he had Sinister treat him with the contents of the mysterious vial (cf. Uncanny X-Men 350), and the improved powers seem to be a side-effect. Later, he is attacked by Batroc and Zaran and easily dismisses them. 2 weeks ago: Beast and Cecelia examine him and find evidence of surgery. He can now charge things without touching them and is constantly kinetically hyperactive. He says this happened when he manifested his powers at age eighteen, so he went to Sinister, who removed part of his brain to limit the power. The tissue was placed in the vial, and Remy was indebted to Sinister. Remy realizes Rogue and he arenıt ready to move forward together and breaks up. Fireballs has balls, until Remy blows them up with a glance. Then he uses some to knock down X-Cutioner. Bella Donna and the Assasins Guild question Deadpool and find he let Remy go. During the questioning Constrictor wakes and is knocked out again. Although he hired the assorted villains for the New Son, Courier calls Archangel for help, while Batroc and Zaran attack Remy again. They are buried under a building, and their two guilds start digging them out but scatter when the police arrive. The New Son brings Courier into his citadel, and she protests his recent brutalities, for example towards Quiet Bill, but does nothing to stop him. The Guilds run into Batroc, Zaran, and Crossbones, separately defeat them, and then ally. Beneath the rubble, Bella Donna says she attacked Remy because she still loves him. Denti, investigating the crash site, is still figuring out how to be a good guy again. Fontanelle invades Bullseyeıs dream of taking over the Kingpinıs organization and learns that the contract on Remy expires at dawn.
