20: Turning Point. Written by Louise Simonson. Penciled by Bob McLeod. Inker unknown.

Kind of a strange closer to the Margaret Power coma saga that began in issue 18. The book uses the demons running around in "The New Mutants" to deal in a whole bunch of mystical stuff. We see Mirage of The New Mutants fight Death (not the Marvel Death, and definitely not Lady Death or Neil Gaiman's Death) to save Margaret Power. Meanwhile, the demons kidnap Katie to use her Energizer powers to open a portal. It's just strange, all the way around.

21: The Great Goo-Gam Treasure Hunt! Written by Terry Austin. Penciled by Brent Anderson. Inked by Terry Austin.

This issue benefits from a high dose of Terry Austin cuteness. There's not too much superhero action, and the series' second Spider-Man cameo is equally contrived (right down to the exact same meeting as in issue 6...Spidey's falling, and Alex degravitizes him and saves him). Jack and Katie go into action to save Katie's favorite author from kidnappers, but that's just a minor plot device in a fun story that parallels the fictional Goos and Gams (little Smurf-like creatures) of the title.
Rating: Three and 1/2 stars
