 Issue #16 Cover

Power Pack:
Issues 16-19

Cover, Issue #16, by June Brigman, Copyright 1985, Marvel Entertainment Group.

16: The Kid who Fell to Earth. Written by Louise Simonson. Penciled by June Brigman. Inked by Bob Wiacek. (Both get joint credit in this issue for "art")

Franklin Richards finally meets the team he dreamed about in Byrne's "Fantastic Four" when Avengers butler Jarvis takes Franklin to Central Park (the Four was temporarily holed up at Avengers Mansion while Four Freedoms Plaza was built.) This issue also introduces Kymellian teleporter Kofi, and brings back the Snarks in the person of Queen Mother Maraud's son, High-Snark Jakal. The kids would get Friday's help against this menace, except they ruined their costumes' communicators when they washed them (told you it was a bad idea.) All this, and a Brigman painting on the cover!
Rating: Four stars

17:
Snark Attack! Written by Louise Simonson. Penciled by June Brigman. Inked by Bob Wiacek. (Now, Brigman and Wiacek are credited as "artists".)

Franklin proves his bravery when he takes Katie's Kymellian coin from the Origin saga (Jakal now knows it to also be a transmitter...that's how Kofi found the team on Earth) and gets Jakal to chase him through burned-out buildings until Katie can knock the High-Snark out. Jakal then gets flown to the Arctic to hibernate with Snake Eyes from Issues 9-10. Franklin becomes Tattletale, an official member of the team, at the end of this big fight issue.
Rating: Three and 1/2 stars

18:
Kurse! Written by Louise Simonson. Penciled by Brent Anderson. Inked by Scott Williams.

Franklin's dream-power serves simply to introduce this story, and to lead in to its tie-in in an issue of "Thor". It's also a "Secret Wars II" tie-in, but don't hold that against this issue, where Margaret (the kids' mother) is brutally injured by the rampaging Kurse. This pushes Alex over the edge, and he convinces the team to help him do serious damage to New York in an attempt to stop the Beyonder-altered elf.
Rating: Three stars

19:
Guess who's Coming to Dinner? Written by Louise Simonson. Penciled by Brent Anderson and Scott Williams. Inked by Terry Austin, Scott Williams and Sam De La Rosa.

This 48-page jumbo Thanksgiving epic (which has only six pages of ads) has traditionally been one of the more collectible issues, thanks to its length and its Wolverine guest-shot. Katie decides to invite all the lonely people in the run of the series to Thanksgiving dinner, since, with Margaret Power comatose, Katie feels the need to share her holiday. Before it's over, there's a Thanksgiving parade and a LOT of guest-stars.
Rating: Three and 1/2 stars
