Notes: This is an AU. It splits from Marvel continuity just before the return of Chris Claremont in X-men #100. And there are also a few other differences. (ex. The following is an except from chapter 8 “Genosha”

"Well hello old friend. You've made it, I see." His voice was faint and gravelly, but Erik Lensherr was determined to greet the man who had not only been closer than a brother, but also had been his most bitter rival. "Thank you for coming, Charles." His chest rose deeply as he struggled for a clear breath. Oxygen was being feed through tubes, and IVs dripped nutrients into his system.

A series of electrodes attached to his forehead, chest and arms monitored his rapidly deteriorating condition. Erik looked like Hell, and he knew it. It pained him deeply to be seen like this; weak and helpless. Had he been a less prideful man, he would have wept openly. Instead, he lay there, humbly defiant in the presence of the one person he both feared and admired.

"It looks like this could be my finest moment, eh Charles? The Grim Reaper knocking at my door."

"I'm not going to lie to you Erik. Your prognosis does not look good. Dr. McCoy and the research team on Muir Island are at a loss for answers, but continue their work." Charles Xavier knew that there was no need to pull his punches. Erik would have seen through any smokescreen offered, and would have been insulted by anything other than the truth. No, Charles Xavier was forced to be brutally honest regarding the situation.

"Never one to mince words, are you Charles?…" A series of coughs interrupted further speech. Charles reached for the pitcher resting at the bedside, and poured a glass of water for his friend. The two men had reluctantly been left alone. What they had to say to each other was for their ears only. This moment had been decades in the making, and its bittersweet timing was not lost on either man.

"I'm so sorry Charles. Can you ever forgive an old fool… All I need is your forgiveness, and a great burden will be lifted from these feeble shoulders. Do I have your leave?"

"Indeed, my friend. Be at peace."
