Memories of Green
By Valkyrie aka Astralsquid

"This is the most wonderful evening ah've ever had," Rogue said as she reached across the small table to take Remy's hand in her own gloved one.

"I'm glad, chere. I want dis night to be very special." Remy answered as he gave her hand a gentle squeeze.

They both sat in a quiet corner of a very elegant and intimate French restaurant. Remy had tipped the waiter big to give them the best table in the house. He had had to make the reservations exactly 3 months earlier to guarantee a table at the very ritzy establishment.

Remy had the whole evening planned. A quiet private dinner, then a limousine ride back to the mansion where the surprise party was waiting for Remy's cell phone call to say it was on.

Just then the waiter arrived with Champaign. "Champaign sir?" the waiter asked.

Remy looked at Rogue for her approval. She smiled and nodded. "Oui" Remy said and once his glass was full, lifted it and said, "To de most beautiful woman in de world" and then took a sip.

Rogue blushed slightly and took a small sip from her glass.

A girl selling roses to all the rich couples was wandering around the restaurant and Gambit motioned for her to come to their table. Rogue watched as Remy picked out a long stemmed rose and bought it for her. She watched and smiled at all the sweet things he was doing for her and she knew she loved this man with all her heart.

Remy took the rose and held it over the table but didn't give it to Rogue. Instead he just held it in front of him and smiled. The rose soon began to glow as Remy charged it with his mutant power. With a small puff it burst and along with the delicate rose petals that fell to the table in front of them something fell with a slight tinkle sound.

Rogue looked down to see among the red petals a glint of gold from a solitaire diamond ring. She picked it up and looked at Remy with tears starting to well in her eyes.

"Will you marry me, Rogue?" Remy said, trying hard not to get too choked up himself.

Rogue looked at Remy then down at the ring and began to cry. She had never felt so happy in all her life. She put the ring on and ran around the table to plop herself into his lap and wrapped her arms around him. "Of course ah'll marry you!"

"Dis is da happiest day of my life," Remy said into Rogue's hair as he breathed in her intoxicating perfume.

They held each other not wanting to let go when Remy said "There's more to dis evening yet, I've got a limo waiting to take us for a ride"

Rogue sat back so she could look at him "Really? Let me just get cleaned up a bit first," she said as she got up to go to the restroom, while wiping her tears away.

While she was gone, Remy pulled out his cell phone to let the gang at the mansion know that she said yes and that the party was on and that they would be there soon.

Once Rogue emerged from the restroom she said "Couldn't we just walk for a bit and have the limo pick us up at the park? It's such a beautiful night,"

"Anything you want Chere," Remy answered.

They walked a couple of blocks, arm in arm, not talking but just enjoying each other's company. They saw a lively club across the street with the music booming so loudly that it could be heard outside where they stood. They looked at each other and silently agreed with their eyes to venture over for a dance or two. As they crossed the street a reckless car turned the corner and barreled towards them, obviously with some drunken partiers at the wheel. Remy spotted the car and that

Rogue was directly in its path. Out of shear instinct he pushed her aside and then tried to leap out of the way. The vehicle clipped his feet and his head went straight into the windshield, then he bounced right over the car as it continued on it's way and left the scene.

Rogue got off the ground and turned to see Remy lying in the street, a small pool of blood forming around his head.

"Oh ma God! Remy!" she screamed as she grabbed up his body. He was still alive but there was a large gash on his forehead. Without a thought of who was watching she held him tight and took off into the air. She raced back to the mansion and to Beast's medical facility there with all the speed she could summon.

2 weeks later…

"Where am I?" Remy asked as he opened his eyes, then closed then quickly to the glare in the room.

Beast was startled at the sound that his patient was finally awake. He ran over to Remy's side and spoke softly, "Well, welcome back Gambit. You've had us all very worried."

"What happened?" He asked trying to open his eyes again but squinting.

"You were hit by a car and have suffered some head trauma. You have been in a coma for 2 weeks." Beast explained and went to wake Rogue from her sleeping place. She had set up camp in the med. lab and had not left Remy's side for anything.

"Rogue! Remy's awake." Beast said as he gently shook her.

"Awake! Oh mah God, Remy" She said as she rolled off the cot and went straight to Remy's side completely forgetting to put her gloves back on.

"Remy, sweetheart, ah knew you'd come out of it." She said as she started to cry.

Remy was now able to open his eyes enough to see the people in the room with him. He looked up at Beast then turned to look at Rogue. He put a hand on hers and said, "Who are you people?"

Rogue looked up with a start, then looked at Beast, her eyes wide with shock. Somehow she could touch him now but he didn't know who she was. To continue the story, go to http://www.geocities.com/weaponx_girl/MemoriesofGreen.htm
