Rogue: Violated

The following excerpt taken from the monthly Nightmares series at Marvel-X, Issue #5, July 1999, written by Sarah Glaetzer.
Rogue was scared. She'd never really felt scared before.

She was always strong, always fearless, invulnerable and resilient. But now, suddenly, she felt more vulnerable than she ever thought possible. The tough-as-nails exterior was diminishing and letting out the little girl inside.

The street was dark, and a putrid, dank smell greeted her nose like a slap on the face.

She kept walking, a little faster now, shielding herself in order to fend off the cold wind that bit cruelly at what little there was of her exposed skin and whipped her hair into lassos around her head. She lifted the scarf around her neck to protect her face.

Looking straight ahead, she tried to ignore the scuffling noises from the gutter, and the sound of heavy footsteps behind her.

The scuffling, she figured, was rats. And the footsteps...?
