His dreams are full of regrets, and when he wakes, he continues to hallucinate, and he is still cold. He is in San Francisco, tracking Sinister and stealing for a living. He breaks into a drug dealerıs penthouse, and finds the occupants deaddrowned. He goes to Oscar, the guy who set up the robbery, and gets another job. He finds another drowning victim, then sees Hydro-Man, who can turn himself into water. They fight; Remy jumps in the pool, to dilute his attacker. Guards arrive and shoot; Remy and Hydro-Man both flee. Remy gets Oscar to give him a lead; he finds Hydro-Man on a boat in the bay and fights his way through guards to get to him. He charges up the boat, then jumps off, and lets Hydro-Man explode on shore. He finds Oscar dead, killed by Sinister. In Antarctica, a man on a dogsled had found him, collapsed in the snow. Belasco visits Kurt on Muir Island, pretending at first to be his acrobat teacher Sabu. He offers an exchange: control of the Winding Way for Margali, Kurtıs adoptive mother, whom he now has in a cage. He says her daughter Amanda, who was Kurtıs girlfriend, is the one who massacred the circus, and tells him to go home to learn more. Kurt doesnıt know if he can trust any of these dark magicians, and doesnıt want to involve the rest of his team, Excalibur. Belasco gloats in Limbo: he has Magikıs Soulsword and is taking charge. What he doesnıt know is that Margali has switched bodies with her daughter. But the Limbo version of Nightcrawler does, and he blackmails Amanda into helping him steal the sword. Kurt finds ³Amanda² in the circus; she is oddly cold, and makes Kurt swear a blood oath to help her rescue ³Margali.² She ports them to Limbo; Sıym confronts them, reveals her true form, and captures her. Kurt ports into Belascoıs stronghold to save Amanda; his Doppelganger gives him a sword, thus betraying his master, who disintegrates him with a wave of the Soulsword. Amanda and Kurt fight Belasco, with sword and sorcery. He asks Kurt how he can help Margali, who killed his friends. Amanda knocks the Soulsword away. Margali arrives, having defeated Sıym, and sucks up all of Belascoıs power, then closes him up in a pit. She switches bodies back with Amanda, who restores the circus people, whom Margali only pretended to kill. Amanda is mistress of Limbo now, and stays to guard the Winding Way. An armored hand emerges from the ground in Limbo, holding the Soulsword aloft. Hannah is a little girl looking for her lost dog; they scare her away. Munson arrives with Paige in a bag; he knows about the New Mutants (ı86 special) and thinks Paige is therefore magic and can get them home. She rips her face off and hands it to him, but says she doesnıt have any magic but that. Earlier, the Generation X team had been at a fair, knocking down the milk cans, visiting the freak show, etc. Hannahıs puppy sniffed out Munson, who panics, running through the fair and knocking the Ferris wheel loose. Jubilee, who was riding it alone, is now riding it runaway toward a lake. Each of the team tries to help, but is ineffective until Monet sweeps in and saves the day. Munson bags Paige. The team looks for her, but gives up and goes back to the school. Munson and Chambliss track them there, still looking for a magic way home. They attack Jubilee and eat fireworks. Paige convinces Nettles to take her there, too, and they are followed by locals with dogs and torches, looking for a monster. Munson and Chambliss hide; Paige husks to gold and lures them back out. She sends them away with her gold skin, then decides to call the cops. Autheir arrives and disperses the crowd; Hannahıs parents collect her, saying her dog has been back for hours; Nettles decides to go back with his friends, who are already fighting over the gold. Guido is working for Lila, and hears that aliens are about to invade Earth. He begs Lila to port him to X-Factor headquarters, but nobody is home, the X-Men arenıt answering the phone, so he gets Hank, Rahne, and Jamie from Muir Island (X-Factor faked their deaths, X-Factor 132; the X-mansion was gutted during OZT; and Excalibur disbanded). Melvin goes to Helenıs wedding (to Andy) and starts summoning devils. (It is also Halloween; half the hall is the reception, the other is a costume party.) Hank detects the resulting dimensional vortex; they put on Halloween costumes and go to the hall to investigate. Things get demonic as Melvin dons the Hell Toupee and claims Helen, who barely knows him. Hank sets up a sonic cannon to close the rift and has the others evacuate the building. Now Melvin is worried: the demons are coming, and they will want to eat someone. But Guido dons the Hell Toupee and orders them back, so they leave. They tell Guido that Alex is dead (X-Factor 149), and he goes back with Lila. Note: a pin-up of Shadowcat and Colossus follows. Kitty, who sleeps in a Dazzler belly shirt and SHIELD skivvies, is fighting mad. When Sarah offhandedly mentions seeing some terrorists in the subway, she wakes the rest of the X-Men and makes her tell the whole story. Wolverine recognizes the bad guys; they go in two teams to Manhattan and start searching the subways. Kitty tries to bond with Sarah, but she will have none of it. Logan and Kurt find Ultimatum, and the shooting starts. Logan is wounded, so they retreat down a tunnel, just as a train comes. Kurt bamfs them away, guessing where the back end of the train is. Rogue and Peter fight Ultimatum on the bomb-laden train. Kurt and Logan port on board; Kitty and Sarah phase on board, finding the bomb in the front car. The rest of the team fight their way forward. Rogue stops the train; it was stopping anyway, under the UN building, which was the intended target. Sarah smells a rat: the Ultimatum wants to unite the world, so they should like the UN. She runs off to find the real bomb, and Kitty follows. They find Flag-Smasher on Wall Street and quickly drop him. But he wonıt defuse the bomb. Kitty plans to phase with it, but Sarah knocks her out, then stabs Flag-Smasher and walks away. He can either stop the bomb, or he dies, too. (He defuses it.) Sarah goes back with the X-Men, still resenting anyone who doesnıt have bones growing out of their faces. He doesnıt back down: she was supposed to train. He rolls into his office to review recordings of the X-Men in action over the years. Remy returns after a long night; Xavier orders him to train, too, but he doesnıt like being ordered around, either. Xavier plugs in a new, tame Cerebro and psychically visits his other teams: Generation X, X-Force, and Cable. He ponders the future. Kitty rebuilds the mansionıs intranet and learns that her father is on Genosha. Rogue comes to her, upset that Xavier made her train in the Danger Room against the Avengers, and then reminded her that she still canıt touch people. Kitty forces Xavier to talk to her; she tells him to lighten up; he tells her to shape up or ship out. Fuming, she goes and tells Kurt and Peter. Kurt bamfs in and tries to get Xavier to lighten up; he replies that things are too dangerous with Magneto in Genosha. Kurt reminds him to not get stuck in past battles. Xavier finds them all in the Danger Room, working as a team. He smiles. Issue: X-Men Unlimited 24 Date: Sep-99 Story 1: Search and Destroy (27 pages) Feature Characters: Wolverine, Cecelia Reyes Regular Characters: Guest Stars: Silver Samurai Villains: Other Characters: Inazo and Tamika Uehara, Tokitoshi Credits: Writer: Joel Pruett Pencils: Pascal Alixe Inks: Koblish, Collazo, Ramos, Pepoy, Czop Letters: Sharpefont & P.T. He had gone to her clinic for a physical; Tamikia is rushed in, saying her plane crashed with her father in it. Logan goes to find survivors; Cecelia brings her med kit. The pilot is dead, and Tokitoshi is hurt. The Samurai arrives to arrest Uehara as a spy. Logan and Cecelia refuse and flee with their patients; the Samurai has no jurisdiction here. Logan climbs aboard the helicopter and claws it apart, forcing the Samuraiıs people to fight on the ground. He gets decoyed, while the Samurai goes after Uehara. Cecelia tells him he canıt arrest anybody until they get medical care. Uehara realizes that Tokitoshi is the spy, using his secret codes. Tokitoshi shoots the Samurai; Cecelia captures him, shielded by her bio-field. Turns out the pilot was working for the Samurai, and Tokitoshi killed him in mid-flight when he found out. Amelia is by his side to help; Pietro to keep him in line; Huxley has her own agenda; Ransome, Moreau, and Pipeline want to rebuild their homeland; Cortez Pietro demands and end to the Legacy Virus camps; Magnus accedes. He mistrusts most of his cabinet, but has confidence in himself. He considers his past defeats, and the worldıs hatred of mutants, and takes a deep breath. Xavier is brooding over all the X-Men who have died and remembers seeing Logan fight the Brood Queen (Uncanny X-Men 167) and pledging to save him from his feral side. Kurt remembers fighting the Wendigo and seeing Logan help Snowbird out of her feral state (Uncanny X-Men 140?). Jean remembers Logan, barely alive after Magnetoıs attack, saving her (X-Men II:25). Rogue remembers Logan giving her his healing factor (?), even though she had attacked Ms. Marvel. Remy remarks on how Logan and he each found a home with the X-Men; Lorna remarks on how much Logan has improved; Sean remarks on how Logan can be savage or tender. Ororo, Scott, and Xavier discuss the situation; Scott is worried Logan may be unrecoverable, like Dark Phoenix. Jubilee is mad that the X-Men didnıt save Logan; Marrow (!) calms her down and says she should tell Logan how she feels. She writes a letter: she misses and loves him. He gets mad and slashes the huntersı tires, hammock, and clothes and sends them running back to civilization half-naked. He builds a funeral pyre for the animals. Ahab killed Rahne and Meggan, and Excalibur shows up for vengeance. Banshee overloads his voice destroying Shiıar vessels. Just as the X-Men are overwhelmed, Xavier arrives with the Skrull. He mind-wipes Deathbird, as vengeance for killing Lilandra, but she survives. When Ahab attacks Kitty, Caliban switches sides. Jean teams with Mastermind (the originalıs daughter) and projects an illusion of Dark Phoenix. The Shiıar flee, and the Horsemen with them. Gibbon is a mad scientist who wants to put himself and Charlie into cyberspace for good. Snikt! Charlie back in the burbs; weirdo in the lock-up.
